Factbird helps manufacturers turn real-time production data into actionable decisions. Since 2016, the company has served over 300 manufacturers across 28 countries, with an 80+ person team split between Copenhagen and the US. This Technical Lead role is a senior individual contributor position focused on architecture and technical strategy rather than people management. You will own Factbird's multi-year technology strategy, identify architectural gaps, and drive the technical roadmap while balancing cost, risk, and business context. Key responsibilities include: **Architecture & Technical Strategy**: Own the multi-year technology strategy and drive the roadmap toward the target state. Make build-vs-buy decisions for new technical capabilities and evaluate emerging technologies. Define the integration architecture for customer systems, multi-tenancy model, and public API strategy. Own product and data architecture from ingestion through storage and retention. Define observability, reliability, and security posture in alignment with DevOps and Security teams. Author and review major architecture changes across the team. **Tooling & Standards**: Set technical tooling and platform standards as the stack evolves. Define the strategy for AI-assisted development, balancing velocity against code quality, security, and IP risk. Help define shared components and reference architecture. Act as steward for core languages and frameworks. Provide input on technical org design as Engineering scales. Maintain cost efficiency strategy and reinforce architectural principles. **Technical Leadership & Mentorship**: Serve as trusted technical advisor to the Director of Engineering and technical leadership group. Mentor Senior Engineers and Tech Leads toward architect-level thinking. Communicate technical vision and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders. Identify technical risks early. Represent Factbird's technical thinking externally where appropriate. The team works with Rust, React, Node.js, and AWS, with AI-assisted development already embedded in the workflow. You'll be trusted with genuinely hard technical calls and expected to hold both technical detail and commercial context. **Requirements**: - 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience, including real time spent as an architect or equivalent senior technical authority - Track record of owning multi-year technology strategy or platform architecture decisions that other teams depended on and that held up - Led major RFCs or architecture proposals cross-team through genuine pushback to actual decisions - Deep, current expertise in cloud platforms; working knowledge of IoT device interfacing is an advantage - Experience with high-volume data platforms - Systems-level programming depth in Rust, C++, Go, or C - Fluent with architect's toolkit: ADRs, C4 or equivalent - Comfortable making build-vs-buy and technology-adoption calls accounting for cost, risk, and market direction - Experience mentoring senior engineers or Tech Leads toward architect-level thinking without formal authority - Practical, current experience with AI-assisted development and clear point of view on where it helps versus creates risk
