Wayve is building the AI platform for autonomous driving, pioneering an end-to-end learning approach that enables vehicles to adapt and improve at scale. The Robotaxi team is developing capabilities to transition Wayve's AI Driver from assisted to fully autonomous operation. In this role, you will own the architecture and technical roadmap for Remote Assistance—the real-time bridge between vehicle autonomy systems and human operators that safely handles moments the AI cannot resolve alone. You will define the end-to-end system spanning onboard vehicle integration, offboard services, and operator tooling/HMI. Key responsibilities include: - Owning the architecture and technical roadmap for Remote Assistance across all components - Defining the vehicle-operator "contract" covering data exchange, authority bounds, fallback behavior, and failure handling - Leading cross-team execution across autonomy, safety, platform/infrastructure, and product teams - Setting system-level quality bars for safety-critical operation: latency budgets, reliability targets, monitoring, replay/evidence, and incident learning - Acting as technical interface to engineering leadership and safety stakeholders on the L4 safety case - Building low-latency telemetry and video streaming with hard constraints on glass-to-glass latency - Designing fallback and minimal risk maneuver (MRM) logic for safe operation during failures - Decomposing cross-organizational architecture into concrete workstreams across multiple teams - Contributing to Wayve's L4 safety case in close collaboration with the safety organization You will work in a hybrid model combining in-person collaboration at Wayve's London hub with remote flexibility. The role involves hands-on work in vehicle workshops and labs alongside strategic architecture ownership. Requirements: - Staff-level experience building and owning real-time, safety-critical systems in autonomous vehicles, robotics, teleoperation, aerospace/avionics, industrial control, medical devices, or comparable domain - Strong product and customer orientation; ability to connect technical metrics to rider experience and launch readiness - Proven track record leading cross-organizational technical roadmaps and landing work across multiple teams without direct management authority - Deep hands-on expertise in at least one of: low-latency video/telemetry streaming, robotics/AV system integration, control systems, or human-in-the-loop system design - Strong safety-first engineering instincts, failure-mode thinking, fallback/MRM design, operational constraint enforcement, and evidence-driven decision making - Direct experience with teleoperation, remote driving, or remote assistance systems, including operator UX and authority boundaries - Comfort scaling production systems in ambiguous, fast-moving environments from prototype through operational reliability Note: The posting encourages applications even if not every requirement is met, particularly from those passionate about autonomy.
