Helsing is a defence AI company focused on protecting democracies through responsible development and deployment of advanced technologies. This role offers an opportunity to take end-to-end technical responsibility for a safety-critical armament control system (ACS) spanning aircraft, ground stations, and tactical data links. You will shape the system concept and architecture, translating it into specifications for suppliers. Key responsibilities include: • Take full technical ownership of the ACS lifecycle from concept and architecture through hardware/software development, integration, test, qualification and safety release • Define system concept and architecture for on-aircraft and ground-station armament control, including tactical data links and ACS software, working to standards such as MIL-STD-1760, ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-254 and MIL-STD-882 • Write and maintain ACS requirements and supplier specifications using tools like DOORS or Polarion, ensuring every requirement is traceable to verification methods and test results • Serve as technical point of contact in supplier selection, statement-of-work definition and contract negotiations, holding partners accountable to scope, schedule and performance • Coach junior engineers through design reviews, safety reasoning and certification practice, raising quality standards across the team This role sits at the intersection of architecture, certification and partner management. Nothing reaches an aircraft until evidence demonstrates safety. REQUIREMENTS: • Demonstrated experience taking a safety-critical aerospace or defence system through to qualification, with ability to explain trade-offs made • Design experience spanning hardware, software and interfaces, with working knowledge of embedded systems and tactical data links • Ability to write precise requirements and supplier specifications, with fluency in requirements management tools (DOORS or Polarion) • Applied knowledge of airworthiness and safety standards including ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-254, MIL-STD-882 or MIL-STD-1760 • Fluent written and spoken English and German communication with customers and engineering colleagues • Hold or be willing and able to obtain extended German security clearance (erweiterte Sicherheitsüberprüfung, Ü2 or Ü3) NICE TO HAVE: • Experience with model-based systems engineering (SysML in Cameo or comparable toolchain) • Integration experience with stores or weapons on airborne platforms (crewed or uncrewed)
