Salary: USD 120,000 - 170,000 / annual
Pear Suite is an early-stage digital health company building software for community-based care. The care navigation platform equips community health workers, doulas, care navigators, and the organizations that support them with tools to collect, visualize, and act on social determinants of health data. The company helps community-based organizations, health systems, and government-funded care programs deliver more coordinated, person-centered care.
This posting spans two levels on the engineering ladder (Senior Software Engineer and Staff Software Engineer) based on scope of work rather than a fixed title. Leveling will be determined during the interview process based on experience and background.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and architect scalable, reusable software across the full stack (frontend React/TypeScript, backend GraphQL, cloud infrastructure GCP). You will lead technical initiatives from proposal through delivery, balancing hands-on development with strategic design. You will set technical standards and raise the bar on quality, performance, and maintainability. You will document technical decisions and designs clearly for both engineering and non-technical stakeholders, thoroughly test code and systems, and champion software engineering best practices. You will mentor other engineers formally or informally and partner with Product and Engineering leadership on technical priorities and trade-offs.
At the Staff level, you will additionally own architecture and technical direction for a major system or cross-cutting concern used across the entire engineering organization (e.g., data platform, integrations, security). You will lead complex, multi-engineer initiatives with minimal oversight.
Success for Senior roles is measured by the quality and durability of designed systems, depth of hands-on contribution, and growing cross-team influence. Success for Staff roles is measured by the scope and impact of owned systems, quality of technical decisions at an organizational level, and contribution to engineering-wide practices and the hiring bar.

REQUIREMENTS:
Required (floor for both levels):
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including full-stack development
- Deep expertise in React, GraphQL, and TypeScript
- Proven experience designing and maintaining cloud architectures (GCP)
- Strong architecture and system-design judgment, with a track record of decisions that held up in production
- Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on development with strategic design
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Typically Points to Staff-Level Offer:
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant ownership of complex, cross-cutting systems
- Demonstrated technical leadership across multiple projects, systems, or teams
- Track record of setting technical direction with minimal oversight, and owning a system or platform area used by the entire engineering organization
- Experience mentoring engineers across levels without formal management authority
