Wayve is building an end-to-end AI platform for autonomous driving that enables vehicles to learn from real-world experience and adapt at scale. The company is pioneering a mapless, hardware-agnostic approach integrated with global OEM partners to unlock advanced automation levels from L2+ through L4.
As a Staff Validation Systems Engineer on the AI Validation team, you will be a TC4 individual contributor responsible for developing strategies, evidence, metrics, and test systems that build confidence in the Wayve AI Driver. Your focus will be on L2+ driving features and new AI Driver capabilities, including feature-level driving behaviors, human-automation interactions, and capabilities that extend the core driving experience.
Your day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Translating product, systems, and safety requirements into validation strategies, test scenarios, metrics, coverage requirements, and acceptance criteria
- Working hands-on with Python, evaluation pipelines, test implementation, simulation, and data analysis
- Analyzing results and communicating findings, risks, and evidence to Product, Safety, Release, and Autonomy Engineering stakeholders
- Coordinating data, simulation, and evaluation dependencies to ensure validation runs reliably and at scale
- Validating L2+ feature-level driving behaviors and new AI Driver capabilities
- Evaluating interactions between the automated-driving system and the human driver
- Defining general-purpose metrics for on-road and simulated driving behavior
- Providing hands-on technical direction across teams while remaining an individual contributor
You will work on feature-level behavioral metrics, simulated and real-world scenarios, evaluation pipelines, and acceptance criteria. Your work will generate evidence used to decide whether new capabilities are ready for product and release milestones. You'll build Python-based evaluation tooling, perform SQL and scalable data analysis, develop behavioral metrics, define test coverage, and implement automated validation execution.
Wayve operates a hybrid working model combining in-person collaboration with focused remote work. The company is not a mature, fully-structured organization—much of how it works is still being written, and you'll help shape it. This suits people who want real ownership over ambiguous problems.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience validating autonomous-driving, robotics, or closely related intelligent products, particularly learned or adaptive behaviors
- Hands-on experience building scenarios, metrics, test suites, evaluation pipelines, or data-analysis workflows
- Professional proficiency in Python and comfort with SQL or similar large-scale analysis tools
- Experience validating complex systems in simulation, the real world, or both
- Strong communication skills, excellent documentation practices, and ability to own ambiguous problems from concept through evidence and recommendation
- Excitement about L2+ feature behavior, human-automation interaction, and new AI Driver capabilities
- Advantageous: ML, computer vision, motion planning, SOTIF, safety validation, or modern AI-tooling experience; direct automotive OEM experience is helpful but not essential
- The company encourages applications from passionate autonomy enthusiasts even if you don't meet every requirement
