Dune is the industry standard for onchain data and blockchain intelligence, serving 1,000+ institutional customers including Visa, WisdomTree, FINRA, the IMF, Bloomberg, and Coinbase. The company makes onchain finance observable by delivering structured datasets spanning stablecoins, RWAs, tokens, lending, trading, and more across 130+ chains.
You will join a ~50-person distributed team as a Staff Software Engineer focused on building market data solutions. This is a hands-on role where you'll design and build distributed systems for ingestion, normalization, processing, storage, and delivery of realtime market data from blockchain and other sources. You'll own the full lifecycle: designing systems that scale across chains and protocols, building streaming solutions that handle event ordering, timestamps, duplicates, replay, gaps, recovery, and blockchain reorganizations, and creating reliable client feeds and APIs with clear delivery contracts and access controls.
Key responsibilities include: designing and operating distributed backend systems with demanding reliability and performance requirements; building realtime streaming solutions with proper concurrency, state management, backpressure, and recovery; ensuring data correctness across timestamps, numeric precision, and schema changes; instrumenting latency, freshness, completeness, and correctness metrics; debugging independently and driving root cause analysis; owning services through deployment and on-call rotation; using AI-assisted development throughout the workflow; leading technical decisions across team boundaries; and mentoring other engineers through implementation and code review.
You'll work in a fully remote-first environment with flexible hours, async-first communication to minimize meeting overhead, and quarterly offsites in various locations. The company offers 5 weeks PTO, private medical insurance, dental and vision coverage, 16 weeks paid parental leave for primary caregivers, home office setup allowance, annual learning and development budget, and a competitive salary and equity package (top 25% in the space) with employee-friendly terms including a 10-year exercise window.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Built and operated distributed backend or data services with demanding reliability and performance requirements
- Deep understanding of failure modes and ability to debug across service and data boundaries
- Experience with realtime streaming systems, including concurrency, state management, backpressure, and recovery
- Strong care for data correctness (timestamps, numeric precision, schema changes, corrections)
- Strong computer science fundamentals and backend engineering skills
- Experience in Rust, Go, or comparable languages
- Ability to turn ambiguous requirements into pragmatic designs and production services
- Clear written communication and ability to work effectively with distributed teams
PLUS (not required):
- Financial or market data experience at a financial institution
- Onchain data experience (blockchain indexing such as EVM or Solana)
- Reference data experience (instrument and entity masters, identifier mapping, effective-dated records, tokenized asset and fund data)
- Experience at a company where data is the product
