Chainguard is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Developer Platform team, which builds the internal infrastructure, automation, and AI tooling that powers Chainguard's engineering organization. This high-impact role focuses on eliminating developer toil, accelerating team velocity, and shortening the path from vulnerability discovery to hardened artifacts reaching customers.
You will own significant slices of the Developer Platform across multiple domains: monorepo CI/CD pipelines, an Agentic AI platform, shared build infrastructure, and change validation/review systems. Key responsibilities include:
- Taking ownership of meaningful platform components and contributing to technical direction alongside leadership
- Authoring technical architectural design documents that ensure reliability, security, performance, scalability, and maintainability
- Improving monorepo CI/CD speed, reliability, and developer experience to reduce build wait times and debugging overhead
- Exploring next-generation change throughput beyond traditional PR workflows, enabling trusted AI agents to commit directly to main with automated validation and supporting AI-assisted review and auto-merge for low-risk changes
- Productionizing the Agentic AI platform, including agent observability (structured traces, cost tracking, debuggability), shared memory, and context-engineering patterns (skills, tools, memory) for reliable agent operation from dev through production
- Consolidating fragmented build systems and delivering standardized "paved road" blueprints for rapid product onboarding and production shipping
- Partnering directly with engineers across the company to identify toil, codify patterns, and automate repetitive work, treating internal stakeholder teams as platform customers
- Mentoring teammates, raising the bar on design and code review, and serving as a technical voice for engineering velocity and operational excellence
Required qualifications: 8+ years building and operating production services and platform infrastructure in modern cloud environments; proficiency with Go or strong readiness to ramp quickly; deep expertise in CI/CD systems, container orchestration, and monorepo tooling; experience contributing to technical direction across multiple teams; familiarity with Agentic AI/LLM-based automation in production and context engineering (RAG, memory, tool-calling); excellent communication and collaboration skills; fit with a high-paced, data-driven "ship it" culture.
Preferred: experience scaling GitHub Actions, Argo Workflows, Buildkite, or comparable systems at high throughput; experience scaling change throughput beyond traditional PR workflows.
