This Staff Software Engineer role is a senior individual contributor position working across multiple systems and platforms within Care Finance's provider and partner ecosystem. The role operates on a months-long horizon, maintaining systems under strict HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and SOC 2 compliance requirements. Key responsibilities include: - Setting craft standards by bringing expert systems thinking and teaching others, leveraging AI-native approaches to raise baseline capabilities - Identifying high-impact problems that others miss and shaping solutions that strengthen PayZen's data assets and expand platform capabilities across the patient financial lifecycle - Driving end-to-end workstream delivery with ambitious but feasible milestones, sequencing work to deliver early value, and proactively unblocking teammates - Shaping product direction cross-functionally with partners and maintaining momentum through pivots - Coaching peers on compounding impact, providing actionable feedback across workstreams, and advocating for strong hiring candidates - Building tools and shared systems that create structural leverage, multiplying team impact beyond individual contribution Required qualifications: - 8+ years of production software engineering experience building and operating systems at scale - Expert craft and strong systems thinking across multiple systems or surfaces - Track record of finding high-impact problems and driving solutions end-to-end - Ability to set ambitious but feasible milestones and sequence work for early value delivery - Hands-on daily proficiency in Java, Go, Python, or TypeScript with code writing and review - Experience building tools or shared systems that accelerate team velocity - Working knowledge of application security and compliance-regulated environments; HIPAA, PCI-DSS, or SOC 2 exposure preferred - Demonstrated habit of coaching peers and giving actionable feedback
