Peregrine Technologies, backed by leading Silicon Valley investors, builds an AI-enabled platform that transforms siloed data into operational intelligence for public safety organizations, state and local governments, federal agencies, and private-sector institutions. The platform currently serves hundreds of customers across 30+ states and two countries, reaching over 125 million people.
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Applied AI team, you will be instrumental in delivering differentiated value to customers by crafting powerful, intuitive user experiences powered by generative AI. You'll unlock entirely new ways for users to interact with the platform and shape safe, impactful AI-driven features that help customers solve real-world problems with greater speed and ease.
Your scope of work encompasses a wide range of complex technical challenges: scaling the platform to handle terabytes of data ingested from diverse sources, efficiently querying and notifying users on this data in real-time, and optimizing search algorithms to serve results quickly. You will take full responsibility for major features and work closely with other engineers to drive them to completion. You'll collaborate directly with the deployment team and users as you iterate to solve their problems.
The engineering team values ownership, collaboration, humility, and empathy. You'll have the opportunity to work closely with the team onsite to understand the variety of use cases Peregrine serves. The current tech stack includes: backend (Python, Django, Celery, Airflow, Kafka), frontend (React, Redux, Mapbox), data stores (PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch), ML models (Bedrock, SageMaker), and infrastructure (AWS, Pulumi, Terraform, Kubernetes).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Over 8 years of experience working with cross-functional software development teams
- Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- Understanding of best practices for using generative AI responsibly, with bonus experience applying LLMs to enhance user experience
- Knowledge of how to train, deploy, integrate, and monitor machine learning models
- Experience shipping and iterating on production-grade software components professionally and/or in the open-source community
- Ability to write robust, well-tested, and well-designed code that frequently gets deployed to users
- Strong best practices in modern software development and comfort navigating large codebases
- Located in Washington, DC and open to working in office
