Agility Robotics is seeking a Staff Robot Architect - Dynamic Simulation Specialist to drive early architectural decisions for humanoid robotics platforms by creating high-fidelity, flexible simulation tools. Reporting directly to the Principal Hardware Architect, you will develop new products and major improvements to existing platforms.
In this technical leadership role, you will serve as the leader for creating early system models for new features and robots, converting applications into digital twin simulation scenarios, and driving architectural decisions based on simulation data while partnering closely with engineers across systems, mechanical, electrical, software, perception, safety, and control teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own end-to-end robot dynamic simulation analysis for early robot architecture, ensuring scalable and reliable data to inform and validate technical direction in new product architecture and product definition efforts.
- Provide technical direction to other architects and across teams, guiding the design of high-performance robotic subsystems.
- Lead trade studies and architecture reviews for both simulation tools and analysis results, balancing performance, functional safety, complexity, manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
- Partner with cross-functional teams including software, controls, and simulation teams to ensure architectural decisions are grounded in system-level modeling, simulation, and performance analysis.
- Collaborate with software, systems engineering, test, and integration teams to ensure simulation translates into testable, traceable requirements.
- Influence long-term roadmap and product direction by translating user needs, field performance, and R&D findings into architectural evolution.
You will be responsible for ensuring the product vision becomes valuable data and directly leads to cohesive, performant, reliable, and scalable systems for humanoid robots and fleets. This role is ideal for a senior simulation or controls engineer with a proven track record in simulation, robotic system design, control, and architecture, with experience in mobile robotics, ideally including humanoid or legged robotics, and strong data-driven decision making.
The position is hybrid based in Fremont, CA, with occasional travel to offices in Salem, OR, and Pittsburgh, PA required to support development activities.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in dynamic simulation of platforms to drive product development as a senior or lead engineer
- 5+ years experience with simulation system, process, and tools development as a senior lead engineer
- 3+ years robot system/architecture development as a senior lead engineer
- Deep understanding of robotic system design and component simulation and digital twin with OS in loop
- Proven experience in supporting the delivery of complex robotic systems into field or commercial deployment from ideation phase through production
- Strong foundations in software engineering, robot kinematics, dynamics, controls, and system modeling
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience influencing decisions across multidisciplinary teams
- Experience with simulation tools such as MuJoCo, Gazebo, or equivalent, and integrating simulation into system design and validation workflows
- Experience with AI and reinforcement learning techniques applied to robotics learning and control
Bonus qualifications:
- Prior experience architecting full-stack robotics systems in humanoid, legged mobility, mobile manipulation, or high-DOF automation platforms
- Hands-on experience with perception pipelines, real-time control systems, and safety-rated architectures
- Experience with Github and similar collaborative development tools
- PhD or Master's degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or related field
- Experience mentoring and growing engineers, and fostering healthy team culture
