Divergent 3D is building the next generation of industrial manufacturing, serving automotive OEMs and aerospace/defense companies with advanced integrated engineering and manufacturing platforms. This Staff Quality & Reliability Engineer role is a technical leadership position focused on resolving complex, systemic machine reliability challenges across Divergent's additive manufacturing fleet. You will own the full lifecycle of reliability issue management: intake, triage, and prioritization of engineering escalations based on fleet impact, recurrence, severity, and business need. You'll determine appropriate engineering ownership and engage subject-matter experts across hardware, automation & controls, materials & processes, manufacturing design engineering, software, and supplier quality. A core responsibility is coordinating and supporting root cause and corrective action (RCCA) for recurring, systemic, and machine-level failures. You'll cultivate a problem-solving culture that looks beyond symptoms to identify true root cause, challenge assumptions, identify evidence gaps, and ensure technical conclusions are data-driven. You'll drive engineering issues through validated closure by coordinating with SMEs to develop solutions, providing guidance on evidence generation, and tracking aging and closure of engineering actions. You'll also inform future product design by supporting the generation of engineering standards and requirements informed by reliability learnings. As a technical leader, you'll serve as the go-to expert for reliability problems spanning multiple engineering disciplines and organizational boundaries, creating alignment when ownership is unclear and driving teams toward evidence-based decisions. You'll communicate reliability risks, technical findings, tradeoffs, and recommended actions to engineering and business leadership, and improve the mechanisms, metrics, and processes used to manage engineering reliability issues. This is a senior individual contributor role with significant cross-functional influence but no direct people management responsibilities. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field - 6+ years of experience in machine development, reliability engineering, manufacturing engineering, equipment engineering, or related discipline - Demonstrated experience leading complex root cause investigations and corrective actions on electromechanical or automated equipment - Strong understanding of structured problem-solving methodologies such as RCCA, 8D, fault-tree analysis, FMEA, DOE, or equivalent - Experience working across mechanical, electrical, controls, software, manufacturing, and/or process engineering disciplines - Experience establishing or scaling reliability engineering processes, issue-management systems, engineering standards, or technical-debt reduction mechanisms - Ability to lawfully access information and technology subject to US export controls
