Lumilens is building critical photonics infrastructure for AI supercomputing, including chip-to-chip optical interconnects and scalable photonic engines. The company is Series B funded and led by industry veterans focused on unlocking faster, cooler, and more efficient computing. As a Staff Optical Manufacturing Test Engineer, you will own end-to-end manufacturing test validation for photonic components, modules, and systems. This role bridges production testing, hardware test development, and quality reporting, supporting both new product introduction (NPI) and volume manufacturing. Key responsibilities include: - Establish and maintain manufacturing test ownership under change control and QMS requirements, including equipment selection, tester BOM, test schematics, flows, and work instructions - Develop, assemble, validate, and release testers for production; manage tester documentation and specifications - Analyze test results for compliance with performance and quality standards - Own product test yield, quality, and reliability metrics - Define and execute continuous improvement plans targeting yield, cycle time, throughput, and scrap reduction - Design, plan, and conduct optical and fiber testing on components, devices, and systems; perform production calibration - Collaborate with quality teams on qualification test planning and execution - Partner with design and process engineering teams on design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for test (DFT) - Generate comprehensive test reports for internal and external stakeholders - Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis for product issues - Work with contract manufacturing partners on operator training, test process guidelines, and change order review - Develop troubleshooting guidelines, tools, templates, and data analysis frameworks - Manage tester process control including SPC, GR&R, and correlation studies - Collaborate with software engineers and database architects to optimize manufacturing test data management and analysis - International travel required Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or related field - 12+ years of experience in high-volume optical transceiver manufacturing and/or automated test system development for electronics and optics manufacturing - Experience with transceiver module tests at 400G, 800G, 1.6T, or similar high-speed standards preferred - Expert-level knowledge of optical test equipment, protocols, and their application to optical transceiver manufacturing and design - Hands-on experience with optical test instruments (optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, polarization controllers, bit-error-rate testers) - In-depth technical knowledge and hands-on experience in yield analysis, problem solving, and manufacturing process implementation - Familiarity with processor communication interfaces and test automation tools - Data query and statistical analysis skills - Practical experience in SPC, GR&R, tester correlation, and report generation - Ability to write or adapt scripts for automation (Python, LabVIEW, Visual Basic; Shell scripting a plus) - Experience in ongoing reliability testing and quality control best practices - In-depth understanding of quality management systems and quality standards - Expertise in optics failure analysis (FA) processes and tools - Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; resourceful and creative approach to test challenges - Capable of managing multiple test projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment - Strong ability to work in geographically diverse cross-functional teams - Fluent English communication (verbal and written); strong presentation skills; ability to train and mentor peers
