Salary: USD 405,000 - 485,000 / annual
Anthropic is seeking a Staff+ Fullstack Software Engineer to join the Safeguards Engineering team, which focuses on building safety and oversight mechanisms for AI systems. The role involves designing and building internal review tools, dashboards, case queues, and evidence viewers that enable analysts to investigate abuse and make high-volume, high-stakes decisions accurately and efficiently. You will also build interfaces for human supervision of AI agents, including streaming output, interruption and approval flows, and clear provenance tracking for every action.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build internal review tools and dashboards for abuse investigation
- Create interfaces for human supervision of agents with streaming output and approval flows
- Surface abuse patterns to research teams through visualizations and exploration tools
- Own frontend architecture for tools handling sensitive data at scale, ensuring performance with large datasets, correctness under real-time updates, and end-to-end access controls
You will work across the full stack to uphold principles of safety, transparency, and oversight while enforcing terms of service and acceptable use policies. Team placement occurs after the interview process, matching your interests and experience with organizational needs.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or comparable experience
- Proficiency in TypeScript and modern React; comfortable in Python for backend work

- Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Strong candidates may also have:
- 8+ years of experience in a software engineering position (not including internships or co-ops)
- Experience building data-dense internal tools or operator interfaces
- Experience with integrity, spam, fraud, or abuse detection and mitigation
- Experience building trust and safety detection mechanisms for AI/ML systems
- Experience with prompt engineering, jailbreak attacks, and adversarial inputs
- Experience working closely with operational teams to build custom internal tooling
