GitLab is seeking a Staff Fullstack Engineer to lead technical direction for the Purchase team within Monetization Engineering. This is a technical leadership role responsible for the end-to-end purchase experience across all GitLab products, including new purchases, add-ons, upgrades, and self-service promotional discounts.
You will design and build fullstack features using Ruby on Rails (backend) and Vue.js (frontend), leading technical design for new purchasing capabilities and a unified purchase experience. Key responsibilities include partnering with Product and Design to translate requirements into resilient, well-tested solutions; ensuring safe integration with downstream billing and CRM systems; setting engineering standards for code quality, testing, and monitoring; mentoring engineers and providing thoughtful code review; identifying and reducing technical debt; and participating in incident response for revenue-impacting issues.
Current projects include unifying separate purchase flows into one consistent experience, building and scaling GitLab Flex subscription flows (seats, AI credits, Runners), evolving self-service promotional discounts, modernizing the purchase frontend for clarity and accessibility, and strengthening integrations with billing and CRM systems.
You bring professional fullstack engineering experience across frontend and backend, with proven ability to own technical direction for a product area and drive thorough, iterative solutions. Experience building or maintaining transactional or checkout-style flows in billing, ecommerce, or subscriptions is essential. You demonstrate a strong bias toward safe, incremental delivery given revenue and customer impact, communicate clearly about complex technical and architectural problems, and are proficient in written and verbal English for remote, asynchronous collaboration. Familiarity with third-party billing or CRM systems (Zuora, Salesforce, Stripe) is a plus. This role reports to the Engineering Manager, Purchase.
