GitLab is hiring a Staff Fullstack Engineer for its Data Products team, a new 0-to-1 initiative building the data infrastructure and intelligence layer for the GitLab platform. This is a foundational engineering role requiring technical leadership through ambiguity—you'll help define what to build, make core architectural decisions, and drive delivery while the vision is still forming. Data Products integrates GitLab and third-party SDLC data to create dashboards, APIs, and data products that serve both customers and internal teams. The team operates across three surfaces: Dashboard and Reporting Framework (AI-native components for engineering health metrics like DORA, VSA, AI Impact), Internal Ingestion (connectors for Jira, Zendesk, ServiceNow, observability tools into a queryable knowledge graph), and External Ingestion (making GitLab data consumable via marketplace, APIs, SDKs, and partner products). You will own the full lifecycle of what ships: architecting how GitLab and third-party data is ingested, modeled, and synced into a near-real-time knowledge graph; leading integrations with external systems for business context; designing the Data Marketplace for consumption through Snowflake, Databricks, and BigQuery; publishing GitLab observability as OpenTelemetry; defining operational readiness across GitLab.com, Dedicated, and Self-Managed deployments; translating ambiguous 0-to-1 problems into concrete roadmaps with Product and Design; resolving cross-team dependencies without escalation; and mentoring senior and intermediate engineers. You'll create organizational leverage by identifying systemic bottlenecks, simplifying processes, and designing systems that dramatically improve execution velocity. This role requires proven ability to influence as a Staff engineer owning product or platform systems end-to-end across multiple teams. You bring high agency—finding owners, clarifying paths, making calls, and pushing until work lands. You're a force multiplier who raises both people and codebases around you. You communicate directly, build alignment across teams, and bias toward writing things down to make reasoning legible. REQUIREMENTS: - Deep full-stack expertise with strong proficiency in Go, Ruby, and Node - Depth in at least one of: analytics and metrics platforms, graph data systems, CDC (Change Data Capture), or warehouse integration - Hands-on experience building production AI-powered tool orchestration - Experience operating multi-tenant systems across SaaS and self-managed deployment models - Proven ability to influence as a Staff engineer owning product or platform systems end-to-end - High agency and bias to action - Mentoring and force-multiplier mindset
