Crusoe is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure company building the energy and compute stack to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. The company operates from electrons to tokens, addressing the critical bottleneck of power availability for AI compute.
As a Staff Commissioning Engineer on the Spark team, you will own the end-to-end commissioning program for modular AI infrastructure units. Your responsibilities span factory testing at the Brighton facility, integrated systems testing, and formal operational handover. You will establish yourself as the technical authority for electrical and controls commissioning across the Spark fleet, translating lessons from each deployment into continuous improvements in module design, manufacturing processes, and the commissioning program itself.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the complete Spark commissioning program, defining how L1–L5 activities split between factory and site, and building standardized commissioning plans, test scripts, and turnover packages that scale across a fleet
- Leading factory acceptance and integration testing of electrical and controls systems to ensure every module meets specification before shipment
- Establishing first-article inspection, in-process quality checks, and ship-readiness criteria with manufacturing and quality teams, with authority to hold shipment when standards are not met
- Overseeing installation validation, startup, and integrated systems testing at deployment sites, verifying correct connections to site power, cooling, and network infrastructure
- Tracking commissioning issues across builds, identifying root causes, and driving fixes into module design, supplier quality, and factory processes
- Managing third-party commissioning agents and equipment suppliers on scope, schedule, deliverables, and factory witness testing
- Serving as the primary technical escalation point for electrical issues from troubleshooting through formal closure
- Aligning engineering, manufacturing, construction, controls, and operations teams on commissioning scope, roles, and readiness milestones
- Delivering complete, accurate turnover documentation and supporting the transition to operations through training and post-handover support
- Enforcing safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements across all commissioning activities
This is a full-time role with significant travel requirements (up to 75%) to the Brighton factory and deployment sites.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5–7+ years of experience in data center commissioning, construction, or critical infrastructure delivery, including ownership of commissioning programs across multiple projects
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; equivalent commissioning experience considered
- Expert knowledge of L1–L5 commissioning and documentation and testing requirements at each level
- Working knowledge of electrical distribution (switchgear, UPS, PDUs)
- Hands-on commissioning experience with data center infrastructure
- Experience developing and running factory acceptance or factory witness testing for prefabricated, skid-mounted, or modular equipment
- Ability to review and interpret construction drawings, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, sequences of operation, submittals, and test procedures
- Track record managing third-party commissioning agents and holding suppliers accountable to scope, schedule, and quality
- Willingness to travel to Brighton factory and deployment sites as required (up to 75%)
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- CxA, CCP, or equivalent commissioning certification
- Experience commissioning in a manufacturing or production-line environment, or scaling a commissioning process from first article to volume production
- Experience with high-density AI and GPU compute deployments
- Experience building digital commissioning tools, test automation, or systems for tracking test results across a fleet
