Amperon is a leading energy forecasting company at the intersection of energy data and AI, serving power and utility companies with demand, renewable generation, and price forecasts. Founded in 2018, the company enables grid reliability and asset optimization through predictive analytics and seamless data integrations.
You will join the Infrastructure & Security team as a Staff Cloud Platform Engineer, reporting to the Director of Infrastructure & Security. This is a hands-on senior individual-contributor role where you'll own major parts of the Azure and Kubernetes platform running Amperon's product, data pipelines, and growing set of AI agents. As a Staff engineer, you'll set technical direction for whole areas of the platform, lead multi-month programs from design to cutover, and raise the bar for how the rest of engineering builds and runs software.
Key responsibilities include:
• Shape the Kubernetes platform: Run and evolve several AKS clusters (production, workflow, and AI/agent workloads) with Karpenter, Cilium network policy, workload identity, External Secrets, Helm, and ArgoCD.
• Lead infrastructure-as-code at scale: Drive the Terraform estate run through Atlantis, including provider upgrades, drift reconciliation, module design, guardrails for safe changes, GitHub Actions runners, and build pipelines.
• Make data stores resilient: Operate MySQL Flexible Server and self-managed ClickHouse with resilience first—replication, failover, backup and restore, capacity planning, and safe upgrades. Customers depend on forecasts every hour, so reliable data is core to the product.
• Build the platform for AI agents: Design isolated, auditable environments for agentic workloads and MCP services, including egress controls, identity and observability, and a self-service path for teams to deploy internal apps safely.
• Make the platform observable: Evolve the observability stack (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Tempo), keep alert rules in code, and ensure problems are detected before customers experience them.
• Collaborate across a global, distributed team: Amperon operates across 17 countries in the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East. Everyone on the team shares ownership of the platform and on-call rotation.
Requirements (from posting):
The posting excerpt provided does not include a dedicated requirements section. However, the role description indicates expectations for deep expertise in Kubernetes (AKS), Terraform, infrastructure-as-code practices, database operations (MySQL, ClickHouse), observability tools (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Tempo), and cloud platform architecture on Azure. Experience with CI/CD systems, on-call operations, and designing secure, scalable infrastructure for AI workloads is implied.
