Salary: USD 131,000 - 184,000 / annual
Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, and satellite buses. The company operates end-to-end, designing and manufacturing all components in-house.
As a Space Embedded Linux Engineer, you will join the Flight Software team responsible for spacecraft behavior and orbital operations. Your role spans the full development lifecycle: requirements capture, design, implementation, testing, verification & validation, and flight operations support.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop reliable, safety-critical flight software for spacecraft, satellite buses, and reentry capsules using C++ on bare metal, RTOS, or Linux-based embedded processors
- Own complete software development cycles from design through integration and testing
- Scope projects, capture requirements, and conduct design trades for open-ended problems
- Implement software test, verification, and validation techniques to ensure system quality and performance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced aerospace environment
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software
- 3+ years developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software
- Strong C++ proficiency and deep language understanding
Preferred experience includes end-to-end spacecraft development and launch, real-time embedded systems, aerospace safety-critical software, CCSDS telemetry/telecommand, F' or cFS frameworks, Python or Rust, analog/digital electronics, and familiarity with SPI, I2C, CAN, or EtherCAT protocols.
