Coder is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Core Workspaces team, which builds and evolves the systems powering agentic development experiences. In this role, you'll manage and grow a team of engineers while staying hands-on with architecture and implementation decisions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and growing a software engineering team within the Workspaces organization
- Setting technical direction for agent harness, integrations, and developer workflows
- Contributing directly to architecture and implementation decisions
- Evolving agent execution, tool use, context management, streaming, and long-running workflows
- Extending the provider-agnostic architecture as models and capabilities evolve
- Partnering with Product and Design to translate agent capabilities into useful developer experiences
- Improving reliability, performance, and operability across agentic systems
- Coaching engineers, raising technical standards, and creating clarity around priorities and tradeoffs
Required qualifications:
- Proven experience managing and growing software engineering teams
- Strong hands-on engineering background with React and TypeScript
- Experience with Go
- Hands-on experience building systems around LLMs and agentic workflows
- Familiarity with model APIs, tool calling, context management, or agent loops
- Strong distributed systems knowledge
- Working knowledge of AWS
- Strong technical judgment and comfort navigating ambiguity
- Track record of helping engineers grow while maintaining high execution standards
Desirable experience includes coding agents, developer tools, cloud development environments, MCP, multi-agent systems, remote execution, sandboxing, isolated compute, multi-provider model abstractions, deep AWS/Kubernetes/Docker/Linux expertise, and open-source contributions.
Tech stack: Go and PostgreSQL backend; TypeScript and React frontend; AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure; Prometheus and Grafana for observability; GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
