Mashgin is an AI-powered checkout technology company that has processed over 1 billion transactions across 40+ million users. The company operates kiosks at major venues including over half of all US professional sports teams, 4,000 convenience stores, airports, and universities. Backed by Series B funding and already profitable, Mashgin is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a core product area. In this role, you will own the direction, delivery, and quality of a significant product area, working directly with founders from conception through launch. You'll hire and grow a small team of strong engineers while remaining hands-on—designing, writing, and reviewing code across the full stack. You'll translate ambiguous product goals into executable technical plans, work with cross-functional teams on hardware and software integration for IoT kiosks deployed in the field, and make architectural decisions about what to rebuild for scale versus what to maintain. You'll carry production ownership and on-call responsibilities alongside your team, and mentor engineers both within your team and across the broader engineering organization. REQUIREMENTS: - 8+ years building production software - 3+ years directly managing engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development - Demonstrated ability to stay technical while managing: recent code contributions, design reviews, or architecture personally owned - B.S. or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent work experience) - Strong proficiency in one or more of: Python, Node.js, C++, Go, Java - Ability to learn new languages, libraries, and frameworks as needed - Experience building production-ready code used regularly by large user bases PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience scaling a team from a few engineers into a functioning group - Background in fast-paced environments shipping quality code quickly with rapid iteration - Comfort deploying and managing cloud infrastructure - Experience with hardware or edge-deployed product components - Knowledge of memory-constrained and performant systems - Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures
