Supabase is a Postgres development platform providing a complete backend solution including Database, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Vector Search. Supabase Storage is a scalable, high-performance object storage service and one of the company's fastest-growing offerings.
You will work across the entire stack—client libraries, CLI, CDN, storage server, and deployment infrastructure. Responsibilities span from improving upload resilience in iOS applications to optimizing S3 protocol for efficient retries and accelerating upload processing. You'll contribute to both the open-source storage server and upstream dependencies like the TUS server.
Key responsibilities include:
- Improving the analytics bucket offering and storage of open file formats (Iceberg, DuckDB)
- Asset optimization to speed up delivery for websites and mobile applications
- Building out the edge network to accelerate uploads and implement features like automatic cache invalidation
- Improving performance, observability, and reliability of the storage server
- Collaborating with the frontend team to build a fast, powerful storage explorer
- Enhancing APIs, client libraries, and CLI for exceptional end-to-end developer experience
- Resolving escalated support issues and identifying systemic platform issues

Requirements:
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience running Node.js in production
- Experience with highly scalable, distributed systems
- Comfort working across the stack: backend application development, infrastructure work (deploying, monitoring, scaling)
- Familiarity with observability tools (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana) and performance tuning
- Production-grade PostgreSQL experience, including tuning and troubleshooting
- Ownership mentality: driving projects end-to-end
- Empathy towards developer experience
Nice-to-have:
- Prior experience working on developer tools
- Solid knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Direct experience designing and operating large file upload/download pipelines at scale
- Deep, practical CDN integration and optimization knowledge
- Experience with image and video processing tools (sharp, dssim, ffmpeg) and formats/codecs (AVIF, WebM, Brotli)
- Frontend ecosystem experience (Next.js, React)
