Telnyx is building the future of global connectivity through a private, multi-cloud IP network and hyperlocal edge technology. The company is profitable and financially stable, operating as an industry leader in programmable networking infrastructure.
This role is a full-stack ownership opportunity on Telnyx's networking-as-an-API product suite, which includes Private Networks, WireGuard interfaces, Virtual Cross Connects into AWS/Azure/GCP, anycast Global IP, and Public Internet Gateways. You will design and own the entire lifecycle: the public REST API specification, the orchestration control plane that translates requests into network deployments, and the automation that programs routers across US, EU, and APAC points of presence.
Key responsibilities include:
**Public API**: Design and maintain REST endpoints (/networks, /virtual_cross_connects, /wireguard_interfaces, /wireguard_peers, /global_ips, /public_internet_gateways) with OpenAPI 3 specs, edge routing, and backward compatibility for live customers.
**Orchestration Control Plane**: Build Python 3.12 asyncio systems that handle resource allocation (IPAM, port/route-distinguisher/GRE-ID pools), Postgres-backed job queues with SKIP LOCKED, retries, rollback on partial failure, and long-running health-check and reconciliation daemons.
**Network Automation**: Deploy Ansible + asyncssh/netmiko to push Jinja2-templated configuration to Linux and VyOS nodes, managing WireGuard lifecycle, FRR/VyOS BGP (VRFs, route reflectors, BGP labels), GRE tunnels, static NAT, firewall rules, Unbound DNS, and anycast announce/withdraw driven by health checks.
**Cloud Integrations**: Work with Equinix Fabric and Equinix Metal APIs to land virtual cross connects into AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
**Data Planes**: Develop Go xDS control plane on envoyproxy/go-control-plane, pushing CDS/RDS/EDS over ADS to edge and gateway Envoy fleets.
**Production Operations**: Own Prometheus/Telegraf metrics, alerting, Bugsnag integration, customer escalations spanning app logic and network, and billing sync for network resources.
Tech stack: Python (asyncio, aiohttp, uvloop, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, aiopg), Go, Jinja2, Bash, PostgreSQL, Prometheus, Telegraf, Ansible, Envoy, FRR, VyOS, WireGuard, BGP, and cloud provider APIs.
You should be strong in async Python, comfortable in Go, able to read FRR or VyOS configs, and experienced with async-job, rollback, and eventual-consistency patterns in infrastructure-as-code contexts. This is a fast-paced environment where your work is visible and consequential.
