Airbnb's Passport & Commerce team is building the trusted account and commerce foundation that enables anyone, anywhere to become part of the Airbnb community. This newly formed organization brings together identity and commerce foundations, with a mission to move Airbnb beyond the transaction—building a world where accounts create trust, value sticks, and benefits travel with users and their businesses.
As a Software Engineer on the Android team, you will build Android experiences that bring account features to life for millions of guests and hosts. You'll own well-scoped features from technical design through launch, working closely with backend, iOS, and design partners. You'll design and build Android features using modern, declarative UI and unidirectional state architecture. You'll partner with product and design to turn concepts into polished, accessible Android experiences, and collaborate with backend, iOS, and web engineers to keep feature behavior and data consistent across platforms.
You'll write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and actively participate in code and design reviews. You'll learn from and collaborate with senior engineers on the team, contributing to shared Android patterns and best practices as the team scales. You'll troubleshoot and resolve bugs, performance, and reliability issues affecting the Android app.
Success in this role means shipping reliable, performant, and polished Android experiences that maintain parity with iOS and web surfaces, growing your ownership over time as the Android presence expands, and becoming a dependable contributor the team can count on to deliver.
**Requirements:**
- 3+ years of professional Android engineering experience, including shipping features in a large-scale, production consumer app
- Proficiency in Kotlin and modern Android architecture, including declarative UI (e.g., Jetpack Compose), unidirectional state management (MVI/MVVM), and dependency injection
- Experience working with backend and other platform (iOS and web) engineers to integrate APIs and keep cross-platform experiences consistent
- Track record of delivering features from technical design through launch and iteration, with growing scope and independence
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, and a habit of seeking and acting on feedback
- Comfort operating with some ambiguity, including on a newly formed team establishing new surfaces for the first time
- Solid understanding of mobile app performance, accessibility, and release/CI practices for a large-scale consumer app
