Brex is an intelligent finance platform enabling companies to spend smarter and move faster across 200+ markets. The platform combines global corporate cards and banking with spend management, bill pay, and travel software, serving tens of thousands of companies including DoorDash, Coinbase, Robinhood, and Zoom.
The Identity and Access Management team builds and maintains secure, user-friendly authentication and authorization systems that protect users, safeguard company assets, and provide seamless access experiences for developers. The team owns critical platform capabilities including login methods, step-up authentication, custom authorization platforms, account delegation flows (Copilot, Pro Access), embedded partnerships authentication, and core vendor integrations like Okta and Oso.
As a Software Engineer II on the IAM team, you will design, build, and operate backend systems and APIs for authentication, authorization, identity context, and audit-related workflows. You will own well-scoped projects end-to-end, from technical design and implementation through rollout, measurement, and operational support. Key responsibilities include improving login and access experiences across SSO, MFA, step-up authentication, delegated access, and enterprise identity flows; building and extending authorization systems supporting custom roles and resource-aware access control; creating durable, identity-aware audit trails; partnering with engineers across Brex to make IAM integrations secure by default; and contributing high-quality code, design reviews, documentation, and operational improvements.
The role is based in the São Paulo office with a hybrid environment requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in-office (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday), plus up to four weeks per year of fully remote work.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building reliable production backend systems
- Experience owning well-scoped technical projects and driving them to completion with limited support
- Experience building APIs, services, or platform infrastructure with strong engineering rigor around testing, code quality, and documentation
- Clear communication, strong collaboration across teams, and effectiveness in cross-functional technical discussions
- Commitment to operational excellence with ability to improve system reliability, reduce toil, and maintain high-quality services
- Strong product and engineering judgment to balance security, usability, and developer experience
- Strong written and verbal English communication and interpersonal abilities
BONUS POINTS:
- Experience with identity and access management, authentication, authorization, or audit systems in production
- Hands-on experience with Okta, Oso, SSO, SAML, OIDC, OAuth, passkeys, or WebAuthn
- Experience building enterprise-facing admin controls, custom roles, delegated access flows, or audit trails
- Experience on platform teams providing shared infrastructure, paved roads, or secure-by-default frameworks
