Salary: CAD 133,000 - 183,000 / annual
Affirm's Streaming team is responsible for all data infrastructure, event-driven architecture, stream processing, data exploration, discovery, and validation. The team leverages open-source technologies like Kafka, Flink, and Schema Registry, and builds custom solutions as needed.
In this role, you will work with your tech lead and manager to break down larger projects into individual tasks and deliver them in multiple phases. You'll collaborate across product development, working closely with product management, design, and analytics teams to identify new use cases for data infrastructure and ensure optimal data utilization across the company.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and scaling existing data infrastructure
- Identifying and executing on new use cases of data infrastructure
- Supporting the product development lifecycle through collaboration on ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on risk/trade-off decisions
- Creating and monitoring metrics to support operations and availability
- Participating in on-call efforts and "keep the lights on" responsibilities
- Contributing to team growth through participation in the interview process and code reviews
- Writing clear, well-tested, and extensible code while navigating large codebases
You'll be part of a remote-first, globally distributed engineering team with flexibility built in. All new hires attend an in-person onboarding experience.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer
- Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems
- Proficiency in Python or Kotlin
- Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and technologies: AWS, Kafka, Flink, Kubernetes
- Ability to translate business scenarios into solutions involving multiple software components
- Strong code quality practices: clear, well-tested, extensible code
- Comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging, and providing code review feedback
- Demonstrated ownership of personal growth and proactive feedback-seeking
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
- Must be a resident of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan
