Salary: CAD 133,000 - 183,000 / annual
Affirm is a fintech company that enables people to pay over time with transparency and predictability. The Batch Developer Experience team builds tools and systems that streamline batch development, testing, and reliability across Affirm's critical batch workloads.
In this role, you will work as a backend engineer on the Batch Developer Experience team, partnering with product, infrastructure, and fellow engineers to improve developer productivity and system reliability. You will break down larger projects into manageable tasks, deliver work in phases, and collaborate across teams to ensure timely delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Breaking down projects into individual tasks with support from your tech lead and manager, delivering work in multiple phases
- Collaborating with product management, design, and analytics teams during ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that balance risks and trade-offs
- Supporting operations and availability of your team's systems by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues when needed, and participating in on-call rotations
- Contributing to team culture through participation in hiring, mentoring, and professional development activities
- Designing, developing, and launching backend systems that interact with multiple software components
- Writing clear, well-tested, and extensible code while navigating large codebases and providing constructive code reviews
- Taking ownership of your growth by seeking feedback from teammates, managers, and stakeholders
You will work on distributed systems at scale, using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. The role requires strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with a global engineering team.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer
- Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems
- Proficiency in Python or Kotlin
- Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and technologies (AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes)
- Ability to translate business problems into multi-component solutions and execute with clear, tested, extensible code
- Comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging, and providing code review feedback
- Demonstrated ownership of professional growth and proactive feedback-seeking
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
