Tempo is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead one or two engineering teams. With over 30,000 customers including a third of Fortune 500 companies, Tempo is the #1 time management add-on for Jira and a trusted name in the Atlassian ecosystem, offering integrated solutions for time management, resource planning, budget management, roadmapping, program management, and reporting.
In this role, you will provide direct leadership and management for engineering teams composed of software developers, QA specialists, and other technical roles. You will be responsible for supporting team performance, improving delivery practices, maintaining team morale, and ensuring high-quality outcomes aligned with product and business priorities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading one or two engineering teams and monitoring team productivity and code quality in an AI-augmented development environment
- Owning team delivery outcomes, including processes, communication, and continuous improvement
- Planning and executing objectives aligned to product line goals and broader organizational priorities
- Coordinating team execution with minimal supervision, ensuring accountability and progress toward commitments
- Identifying and implementing improvements to workflows and processes
- Tracking team capacity, workload, and planning to ensure sustainable delivery
- Conducting regular 1:1 meetings with direct reports and collaborating with peers
- Driving recruiting efforts to staff the team with needed skills and talent
- Evaluating and communicating team member performance, providing coaching and development support
- Defining and maintaining career paths for engineers, supporting individual growth and professional development
- Building an environment that supports morale, retention, and team engagement
- Mentoring individual contributors interested in developing leadership skills
- Managing conflicts within and outside the team while maintaining a constructive approach
- Providing candid feedback to team members and cross-functional peers
- Engaging with stakeholders outside the team to build relationships and ensure alignment
- Ensuring visibility of team progress and deliveries to external stakeholders

Requirements:
- Typically 8+ years of overall experience in software development or related technical roles (or equivalent)
- Typically 2+ years of people management experience (or equivalent leadership experience)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (preferred); equivalent practical experience may be considered
- Experience managing software development teams that actively use AI coding agents and AI-assisted development tools
- Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, performance support, and team development
- Ability to coordinate and execute projects with minimal oversight
- Strong organizational and communication skills, including cross-team collaboration
- Experience managing teams delivering continuously and incrementally
- Experience with Agile methodologies
- Experience improving delivery processes and establishing effective team operating rhythms
- Ability to manage team capacity, planning, and prioritization effectively
- Strong conflict management and relationship-building skills
- Comfort partnering with customer-facing teams to support customer issue resolution
