Wayve is building an AI platform for autonomous driving that learns directly from real-world experience. The Vehicle Software Engineering team, specifically the Tools & Infrastructure group, owns the reliability stack for vehicle software including observability, incident management, operator tooling, and automation that enables faster detection and resolution of issues.
In this role, you will build and improve tooling, automation, observability, and incident-management processes for vehicle software reliability. You'll partner closely with field engineers, software teams, and operations to diagnose reliability issues and improve system performance. Your day-to-day work includes hands-on debugging across Linux, low-level systems, logs, metrics, traces, and vehicle/production data. You'll develop reliability improvements that reduce manual intervention and make issue detection, triage, and recovery faster. You'll also support vehicle-centric operations, including safety-operator tools and the reliability needs of customer and partner programs.
This is not traditional cloud or platform SRE—you'll focus on reliability for real-world autonomous vehicle operations. You'll work on vehicle safety, operator tooling, observability, and incident management that have direct impact on production reliability. Close collaboration with software engineering, operations, and field teams is essential as you help improve how issues are detected, triaged, and resolved. As Wayve scales programs with partners such as Nissan, Stellantis, Mercedes, and Uber, you'll help define what SRE looks like for vehicle-centric systems from the ground up.
Wayve operates a hybrid model with main hubs in London, Sunnyvale, Yokohama, Herzliya, Vancouver, and Leonberg. This role requires onsite presence in Sunnyvale at least three days per week to work alongside field teams.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Write production-quality code daily in Python, C++, or Rust
- Comfortable debugging at Linux and systems level, reading logs, tracing failures, and finding root cause in complex environments
- Experience with CI/CD, containerization, networking, distributed systems, databases, and observability/incident-management tooling (DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Splunk, Humio, or similar)
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex production or operational systems independently, seeing problems through to resolution rather than escalating
- Strong communication across engineering, operations, and field teams; judgment about when to involve others
- Ability to be onsite in Sunnyvale at least three days per week
- Plus: experience with autonomous vehicles, robotics, embedded systems, large-scale telemetry, or safety-critical environments (not required)
