Anduril Industries is a defense technology company developing state-of-the-art imaging systems powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system for military command and control. The Imaging team leverages computer vision, perception, electro-optical, infrared, and sensor data to deliver advanced capabilities to U.S. and allied military forces.
As a Senior Systems Test Engineer (Camera Systems Engineer), you will play a key role in the development of new infrared camera systems. You will work across optical, mechanical, and electrical engineering disciplines to bring integrated camera designs to life, solving complex problems while meeting customer specifications and balancing design complexity.
This role is heavily focused on prototype camera testing and performance validation. You will be responsible for modeling camera performance metrics (Responsivity, Operability, etc.) and implementing comprehensive testing protocols. This involves writing engineering code in MATLAB, Python, or similar languages to command and control prototype cameras, infrared blackbody sources, power supplies, temperature sensors, and multimeters. You will lead image performance evaluation and testing efforts, often being the first to uncover design issues. Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills are essential to quickly resolve issues across teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working directly with all engineering disciplines to drive designs toward specification compliance
- Developing and maintaining software for radiometric modeling, testing automation, data analytics, and report generation
- Conducting root cause analysis on prototype failures, developing troubleshooting guides, and collaborating on corrective actions
- Generating clear test work instructions for technicians and providing equipment training
- Analyzing test data, documenting findings, and generating detailed reports to identify defects and support continuous improvement
- Contributing feedback to early-stage test design for new product introduction (NPI) processes
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience in a related technical field
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical/Electronics, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
- Experience with numerical modeling, preferably radiometry and/or optics
- Experience with data acquisition and processing using MATLAB, Python, or other programming languages
- Familiarity with test automation and report generation concepts
- Foundational understanding of root cause analysis principles for hardware, software, and firmware
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience with camera assemblies and integration of electrical, opto-mechanical, and software/firmware systems
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Physics, Electrical/Electronics, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Knowledge of infrared systems, including performance requirements and verification methodologies
- Experience with cryogenic testing equipment
- Familiarity with test equipment: power supplies, electronic loads, thermal chambers, function generators, spectrum analyzers, data acquisition and measurement sensors
- Experience with computer hardware communication protocols: USB, Ethernet, RS232, RS485, PCIe, HDMI, CAN, etc.
