BETA Technologies is revolutionizing electric aviation through advanced aircraft development. This Senior Structural Dynamics Engineer role provides senior technical ownership for structural dynamics, vibration, and aeroelastic model integration for an advanced narrowbody aircraft program.
You will lead the development of mass- and stiffness-representative finite element models for modal, vibration, forced-response, transient, and aeroelastic analyses. Key responsibilities include:
• Define the structural-dynamics analysis plan, model architecture, interfaces, quality checks, and technical-review approach
• Assess coupled wing, pylon, propulsion, control-surface, and aircraft-system dynamic behavior, including open-fan excitation and whirl-flutter risk
• Translate analysis results into stiffness, mass-property, damping, isolation, clearance, instrumentation, and structural design requirements
• Plan ground vibration, component vibration, structural coupling, and model-correlation activities for later program phases
• Coordinate structural models and assumptions with Loads, Aeroelasticity, Flight Controls, Propulsion, Stress, Design, Test, and cross-functional teams
• Guide mitigation trades and communicate dynamic risk, uncertainty, and recommended decisions to program leadership
• Mentor other engineers and improve reusable analysis methods and automation
The role is based onsite at South Burlington, VT or Raleigh, NC, with hybrid arrangements possible for remote candidates requiring monthly in-person visits to South Burlington.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• Seven or more years of structural dynamics, vibration, aeroelasticity, or aircraft dynamic-test experience
• Deep understanding of modal analysis, damping, forced response, finite element methods, and model correlation
• Experience with NASTRAN, FEMAP, MATLAB, Python, or comparable dynamics-analysis tools
• Demonstrated technical leadership across multidisciplinary aircraft-development interfaces
• Must be a US Person
Desirable qualifications include transport-aircraft wing, pylon, propulsion-installation, control-surface, flutter, or whirl-flutter experience; experience planning and correlating ground vibration or component dynamic tests; and knowledge of Part 25 structural-dynamics and aeroelastic certification considerations.
