Wayve is building an end-to-end AI platform for autonomous driving that enables vehicles to learn directly from real-world experience. The company is pioneering a mapless, hardware-agnostic approach that integrates with global OEM partners to unlock advanced automation levels from L2+ through L4.
The AI Validation team is responsible for proving that the Wayve AI Driver behaves safely and effectively. As a Senior Systems Engineer on this team, you will own validation for one or more driving-behavior competencies from strategy through execution. Your responsibilities include developing metrics and automated tests that connect product requirements to measurable driving performance, running simulation-based evaluations, analyzing results, and investigating failure modes. You will define coverage requirements, test suites, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with Product, Safety, and AV Engineering teams, and report clear findings to Release and Autonomy Engineering stakeholders.
You will work on general-purpose metrics for on-road and simulated driving behavior, automated test frameworks for end-to-end learned driving systems, scenario coverage for complex behavior areas (unprotected intersections, crosswalks, lane changes), and validation strategies that work across multiple autonomy products. Your work will generate evidence that directly influences release decisions and helps bring the Wayve AI Driver to customers globally.
The role requires working across data, simulation, and evaluation teams to remove dependencies and scale automated validation. You'll be a systems thinker who can turn ambiguous requirements into practical, automated tests, and you'll need to adapt to evolving simulation paradigms while communicating findings clearly to stakeholders.
Wayve operates a hybrid working model combining in-person collaboration with focused remote work. The company is still in a growth phase where much of how it works is being written, and the role offers real ownership for those who thrive in less-settled structures.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Hands-on experience with behavior validation in autonomous driving, robotics, or a related product domain
- Experience working beyond basic lane-keeping or conventional ADAS; understanding of L2+, L3, or L4 validation challenges
- Professional Python proficiency with demonstrated implementation of metrics, tests, or evaluation tooling
- Systems thinking ability to turn ambiguous requirements into practical, automated tests
- Ability to adapt to evolving simulation paradigms and communicate findings clearly
- Helpful but not required: SQL, large datasets, AI tooling, or agentic workflows experience
- The posting encourages applications from those passionate about autonomy even if not meeting every requirement
