Hims & Hers, a NYSE-traded health and wellness platform, is seeking a Senior Staff SDET to own quality architecture and engineering strategy for critical systems while leading the application of AI across the testing and release pipeline.
In this genuinely hands-on senior technical leadership role, you will build frameworks, platforms, and agent-driven workflows that engineering teams depend on, define what "safe to ship" means, and stay deeply involved in the code. The role spans multiple teams and focuses on AI-native quality systems rather than bolting AI tools onto legacy infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include:
**Quality Architecture & Strategy**: Own quality architecture for critical systems, design shared quality platforms and automation frameworks adopted across teams, establish quality patterns and guardrails that scale, anticipate systemic risks, and set standards for quality engineering at scale.
**AI-Driven Testing Leadership**: Define strategy for AI-assisted testing including autonomous test generation, intelligent test selection, agent-based failure triage, and self-healing automation. Build guardrails for trustworthy AI-driven testing, orchestrate AI agents in CI/CD decision pipelines, own quality for AI-powered product features (eval suites, golden datasets, LLM-as-judge scorers), establish testing approaches for AI-generated code, and rigorously evaluate emerging AI testing tools.
**Operational Excellence & Team Development**: Lead operational maturity of quality systems and signals, produce exemplary technical artifacts, serve as accountable technical leader for strategic initiatives, mentor senior SDETs and technical leaders, establish hiring standards, champion customer-centric quality decisions, and partner with leadership on embedding scalability into roadmap planning.
**Requirements**:
- 10+ years hands-on quality engineering or SDET experience, including architecting quality strategy and automation platforms across multiple teams
- Proven track record designing and scaling test automation frameworks across full stack (frontend web, mobile, backend/API) using tools like Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Appium, Postman
- Deep proficiency in one or more programming languages (JavaScript, TypeScript, Kotlin) for building shared automation frameworks and tooling; production-quality code, not just test scripts
- Hands-on experience applying AI to testing (LLM-assisted test generation, agent-based workflows, intelligent test selection, self-healing automation) with informed opinions on effectiveness
- Demonstrated ability to define quality architecture and standards scaling across many teams, including shared quality platforms and test infrastructure
- Strong grasp of modern development practices (agile/lean, DevOps, shift-left testing, TDD) and experience embedding quality gates into CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins)
- Experience mentoring and developing senior quality engineers and technical leaders with track record of raising technical bar
- History of leading post-incident and root-cause analysis driving architectural and process change
- Excellent judgment on trade-offs between short-term delivery and long-term system resilience
- Strong executive communication skills to influence engineering and product leadership
- Experience with performance and load testing at scale
**Nice to have**: LLM observability and evaluation tooling familiarity, cloud-based testing platforms experience, e-commerce or healthcare platform knowledge, internationalization/localization testing, quality engineering community building, published writing or talks on testing/AI in QE, experience building evaluation infrastructure for LLM-based product features.
