Crusoe is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure company building energy-efficient data center solutions to power large-scale AI workloads. The company owns and operates the full stack from power generation through cloud services. As Senior Staff Commissioning Engineer on the Spark team, you will own the end-to-end commissioning program for modular AI infrastructure units. This is a technical leadership role focused on scaling commissioning processes across a growing fleet of deployments. Key Responsibilities: - Own the complete Spark commissioning program, defining how L1–L5 activities split between factory and site, and building standardized commissioning plans, test scripts, and turnover packages. - Lead factory acceptance and integration testing of mechanical, cooling, and controls systems at the Brighton factory to ensure every module meets specification before shipment. - Establish first-article inspection, in-process quality checks, and ship-readiness criteria with manufacturing and quality teams; hold shipment authority when modules do not meet standards. - Oversee installation validation, startup, and integrated systems testing at deployment sites, verifying correct connections to site power, cooling, and network infrastructure. - Track commissioning issues across builds, identify root causes, and drive improvements into module design, supplier quality, and factory processes. - Manage third-party commissioning agents and equipment suppliers on scope, schedule, deliverables, and factory witness testing. - Serve as primary technical escalation point for mechanical and controls issues in factory and field environments. - Align engineering, manufacturing, construction, controls, and operations teams on commissioning scope, roles, and readiness milestones. - Deliver complete, accurate turnover documentation and support operations transition through training and post-handover support. - Enforce safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements across all commissioning activities. This role requires significant travel (up to 75%) to the Brighton factory and deployment sites. You will be the technical authority for mechanical and controls commissioning across the Spark fleet and will translate field lessons into continuous program improvements. Requirements: - 8+ years of experience in data center commissioning, construction, or critical infrastructure delivery, including ownership of commissioning programs across multiple projects. - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; equivalent commissioning experience considered. - Expert knowledge of L1–L5 commissioning and documentation/testing requirements at each level. - Hands-on commissioning experience with data center cooling infrastructure, including liquid cooling (CDUs, direct-to-chip systems), and BMS/controls systems. - Experience developing and running factory acceptance or factory witness testing for prefabricated, skid-mounted, or modular equipment. - Ability to review and interpret construction drawings, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, sequences of operation, submittals, and test procedures. - Track record managing third-party commissioning agents and holding suppliers accountable to scope, schedule, and quality. - Willingness to travel up to 75% to factory and deployment sites. Bonus qualifications: - CxA, CCP, or equivalent commissioning certification. - Experience commissioning in manufacturing or production-line environments, or scaling commissioning from first article to volume production. - Experience with high-density AI and GPU compute deployments. - Experience building digital commissioning tools, test automation, or systems for tracking test results across a fleet. - Working knowledge of electrical distribution (switchgear, UPS, PDUs) where it interfaces with mechanical and controls systems.
