Kraken, one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions globally, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Consumer Mobile team. The team builds the Kraken app—the interface millions use to interact with their money—primarily using React Native to deliver complex financial experiences that are intuitive, fast, and trustworthy.
Kraken is expanding into Asia and building a new app specifically for Asian users. This role offers the opportunity to help shape that expansion while working on a product-minded engineering team that collaborates closely with Product and Design.
In this role, you will:
- Build and own high-quality React Native features end to end, from ambiguous client problems through solution design, implementation, launch, measurement, and iteration
- Partner closely with Product and Design to shape thoughtful, responsive, and trustworthy financial experiences across product discovery, trading, and simplified client journeys
- Work with APIs and dynamic or real-time data, making strong decisions on state management, rendering, performance, architecture, and reliability
- Raise the product-engineering bar through technical discussions, code reviews, collaboration, strong product ownership, and willingness to move between product and technical challenges
- Act as the team's subject-matter guide on regional UX and design expectations for Asian markets, practical approaches to firewall and connectivity restrictions, and appropriate vendors and tooling such as telemetry solutions
You will work in an environment that values product-building mindset, end-to-end feature ownership, and the thoughtful use of AI tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude) to work faster while retaining engineering judgment and quality.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong React Native experience, including shipping meaningful production applications and making sound architectural and implementation decisions in a modern mobile codebase
- A product-building mindset and strong product judgment; ability to start with client problems, challenge or simplify requirements, and turn loosely defined problems into measurable product outcomes
- End-to-end feature ownership, with ability to use metrics, experimentation, client behavior, and feedback to assess and improve shipped work
- Experience building responsive, data-rich applications using APIs and dynamic or real-time data, alongside close collaboration with Product and Design in written and verbal English
- Versatility and thoughtful AI use; comfort wearing multiple hats and using tools such as Cursor, Copilot, or Claude while retaining responsibility for engineering judgment and quality
- Proven experience building and shipping consumer mobile apps for Asian markets; understanding of the region's UX and design conventions, technical limitations, and ability to navigate launch challenges including firewall and connectivity restrictions; ability to clearly explain how you have solved these problems before
NICE TO HAVES:
- Experience in fintech, trading, crypto, payments, or financial technology, with understanding of trading, investing, or financial products
- Experience with real-time or streaming data, and improving mobile application performance, responsiveness, and reliability across devices
- Experience across both mobile and web, or in a startup or small-to-medium-sized technology company where engineers work closely with Product and Design
- Native mobile experience in Swift or Kotlin, including sound judgment about when to work below the React Native layer
- Chinese language proficiency (Mandarin) or another Asian language
