Kraken, one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions globally, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Consumer Mobile team. The team builds the Kraken app using React Native to deliver complex financial experiences that are intuitive, fast, and trustworthy to millions of users.
In this role, you will build and own high-quality React Native features end-to-end, from understanding ambiguous client problems through solution design, implementation, launch, measurement, and iteration. You'll partner closely with Product and Design teams to shape thoughtful, responsive, and trustworthy financial experiences across product discovery, trading, and simplified client journeys. You'll work with APIs and dynamic or real-time data, making strong architectural and implementation decisions around state management, rendering, performance, and reliability.
A key focus of this role is helping build Kraken's new app specifically for Asian markets. You'll act as the team's subject-matter guide on regional UX and design expectations, practical approaches to firewall and connectivity restrictions, and appropriate vendors and tooling such as telemetry solutions. You'll raise the product-engineering bar through technical discussions, code reviews, collaboration, and strong product ownership, moving fluidly between product and technical challenges.
The Consumer Mobile team is product-minded and works closely with cross-functional partners to understand client problems, challenge assumptions, and measure whether shipped features improve the user experience.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong React Native experience, including shipping meaningful production applications and making sound architectural and implementation decisions in modern mobile codebases
- Product-building mindset and strong product judgment; ability to start with client problems, challenge or simplify requirements, and turn loosely defined problems into measurable outcomes
- End-to-end feature ownership with ability to use metrics, experimentation, client behavior, and feedback to assess and improve shipped work
- Experience building responsive, data-rich applications using APIs and dynamic or real-time data, with close collaboration with Product and Design in written and verbal English
- Versatility and thoughtful AI use; comfort with tools such as Cursor, Copilot, or Claude while retaining responsibility for engineering judgment and quality
- Proven experience building and shipping consumer mobile apps for Asian markets; understanding of the region's UX and design conventions, technical limitations, and launch challenges including firewall and connectivity restrictions; ability to clearly explain how you've solved these problems before
NICE TO HAVES:
- Experience in fintech, trading, crypto, payments, or financial technology with understanding of trading, investing, or financial products
- Experience with real-time or streaming data and improving mobile application performance, responsiveness, and reliability across devices
- Experience across both mobile and web, or in startup/SMB environments where engineers work closely with Product and Design
- Native mobile experience in Swift or Kotlin with sound judgment about when to work below the React Native layer
- Chinese language proficiency (Mandarin) or another Asian language
