Grove Collaborative is a sustainability-focused consumer products company creating household and personal care essentials. This role owns the internal systems integrations and the delivery of Grove's MCP (Model Context Protocol) layer, enabling the business to leverage AI agents safely and effectively.
You will balance operational excellence with strategic improvement: maintaining and enhancing integrations connecting NetSuite, HighJump, the data warehouse, and adjacent systems while actively identifying opportunities to simplify and consolidate the integration landscape. You'll build Grove Brain from its current early stage into a durable platform that other teams build on, designing and implementing connectors and tools that let agents act on real Grove systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Back-office integrations: maintain and enhance existing flows, rebuild individual integrations onto better infrastructure when justified, and reduce system complexity and duplicated logic
- Grove Brain / internal MCP layer: design and implement connectors and tools for agent access to Grove systems
- Security, access, and governance for agents: help define and build authentication, permissions, and auditing in partnership with security and infrastructure teams
- Hands-on enablement: support other teams stuck on integration or agent problems, whether technical or exploratory
- AI-assisted development: use AI tooling aggressively as a force multiplier while maintaining quality standards and moving noticeably faster than engineers working without these tools
- Craft and quality: own performance, stability, and maintainability in shipped code at Grove's scale
This is a high-trust environment where you'll receive real scope and real decisions early. The company values psychological safety, honesty about knowledge gaps, and direct feedback. AI tooling is part of everyday work here—not an experiment. The team is actively learning together and skeptical of anyone claiming to have AI figured out. You should be able to read what a model produced, disagree with it, and explain why. The interview process includes a take-home project and working review covering system design, coding, product thinking, and how you use AI—no LeetCode.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years building and maintaining production system integrations (NetSuite, HighJump, or similar ERP/WMS systems)
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: pipeline design, debugging under pressure, distinguishing quick fixes from real solutions
- Genuine hands-on experience with AI tools and ideally agent frameworks or MCP—not just familiarity, but a track record of building with them
- Comfortable operating with rough direction instead of finished specs and making real progress anyway
- Builder's mindset: prefer standing things up yourself over writing design docs
- Security instinct to ask right questions about agent permissions and access
- Honesty about knowledge gaps; can say "I haven't worked with that" without flinching
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly and get productive fast in unfamiliar frameworks, languages, or platforms
- Track record of taking vague concepts, making them concrete, bringing others along, and shipping
- Strong collaboration skills: give direct feedback kindly, take feedback well, people want you on their projects
- Real sense of ownership and pride in shipped experiences and code quality
- Clear written communication; can walk non-technical people through technical tradeoffs without jargon
- Genuine enthusiasm for Grove's mission and sustainability values
PLUS (nice to have):
- Experience building or contributing to an MCP server or similar agent-tooling layer
- Background with Airflow, Airbyte, or similar data-pipeline infrastructure, especially rebuilding integrations off legacy iPaaS
- Experience with NetSuite and/or HighJump integrations specifically
- Experience setting up auth, access control, or auditing for AI agents on production systems
- Experience at a fast-growing ecommerce company
