Mercury is a fintech platform providing banking, treasury, and financial workflow solutions for startups and technology companies. The Cards Integration team owns the complete Mercury card experience—issuance, physical card shipping, spend controls, lifecycle management, authorization, money movement, settlement, reporting, and underlying infrastructure. This is a full-stack team focused on making Mercury's Debit and IO cards reliable, correct, useful, and innovative. In this role, you will lead projects from conception through tech spec, implementation, and launch, working closely with product managers, engineering managers, tech leads, and teammates. You'll develop a deep understanding of how debit and credit cards work operationally (authorization, clearing, settlement, disputes) and apply that knowledge daily. You'll build features across the full stack, from customer-facing card experiences to backend systems that move money. You'll help maintain operational excellence in systems designed for four nines of reliability, with extensive observability. You'll mentor other engineers and raise engineering quality through design reviews, code reviews, and collaboration. You'll work cross-functionally with product, design, operations, risk, compliance, sales, and other teams. Mercury values high ownership, collaborative work (pairing and team-based rather than siloed), and meticulous attention to detail—essential when running financial systems where every cent must reconcile. Requirements: - Strong full-stack software engineering experience with a product mindset and systems thinking - Demonstrated ability to make architectural decisions on complex systems and articulate reasoning and trade-offs - Excitement about shipping new features and equal commitment to maintaining reliability of existing systems - Deep care for correctness in systems where failure has real financial consequences - Clear communication skills, comfort with ambiguity, and experience mentoring engineers - Comfort with the tech stack (Haskell and TypeScript) or willingness to learn - Bonus: prior experience in fintech, payments, or card issuing
