Affirm's Marketing & Privacy Engineering (MPE) team builds trusted, privacy-aware consumer web experiences and measurement systems that enable sustainable growth. The Marketing pillar owns Affirm's logged-out web experiences, web experimentation, client-side tagging, marketing technology integrations, attribution, and measurement. As a Senior Software Engineer, Backend, you will build the data and measurement foundations that connect consumer acquisition activity across paid media, SEO/AEO, and other growth channels to downstream outcomes such as signup, conversion, and GMV. You will work at the intersection of data engineering and marketing technology, designing and delivering reliable pipelines, identity and event data systems, attribution and conversion measurement, and integrations across Affirm's marketing and data ecosystems. Key responsibilities include: - Owning and delivering quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensuring team support throughout delivery. - Collaborating with product management, design, and analytics during the product development lifecycle—participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs. - Proactively identifying project, process, technology, or business issues; advocating for them; and leading solutions. - Supporting operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call efforts. - Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them through writing and tech talks. - Developing talent on your team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example. You will partner closely with Engineering, Product, Marketing, Analytics, and Data Engineering to ensure consent, tagging, identity, and consumer-data requirements are incorporated into measurement architecture from the start. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys ambiguous cross-functional problems, cares deeply about data quality and operational reliability, and wants to build durable measurement capabilities that help teams understand the effectiveness of consumer growth investments. REQUIREMENTS: - 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin. - Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. - Hands-on experience building marketing data and measurement systems using technologies such as Google Tag Manager (GTM/sGTM), GA4, advertising and conversion APIs, customer data platforms (CDPs), attribution or mobile measurement platforms, and consent management platforms. - Experience building production data pipelines and analytical models using technologies such as Snowflake, dbt, and Airflow, including event-level data, identity resolution, attribution, or conversion measurement. - Experience defining a technical plan for the delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, and extensible design. Must write high-quality code that is easily understood and used by others. - Proficiency at making significant changes in a large codebase, with a suite of tools and practices that enable safe changes. - Demonstrated ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders. - Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
