Formlabs is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Desktop team to work on PreForm, a world-class 3D print preparation application used by industry leaders including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA. This hybrid role (requiring weekly presence in the Budapest office) focuses on revitalizing a mature, large-scale C++/Qt/QML application that ships to real users on every release.
Key responsibilities include:
**Revitalizing a Mature Application**: Rework core user workflows, improve architecture, and raise reliability and observability across a large, long-lived codebase. You'll be responsible for implementing end-to-end software workflows and ensuring ease of use alongside high-performing computations and rendering.
**Integration**: Decouple and harden subsystems connecting the app to printers and cloud services. Expose capabilities cleanly through a developer API.
**Geometry and Rendering**: Handle mesh processing, support generation, build-plate packing, and optimize large, complex scenes to run smoothly on ordinary hardware.
**Systems and Tooling**: Work on profiling, memory optimization, build systems, CI/CD, and developer tooling to maintain a healthy large codebase.
You will collaborate cross-functionally with a user-focused mindset, tackling technically varied challenges in a hybrid environment with remote stakeholders.
**Requirements:**
- Proficiency in C++ or other low-level languages (e.g., Rust, Clojure, Go)
- Ability to architect reliable systems and work effectively in large, evolving codebases
- Strong commitment to code quality, testing, and maintainability
- Comfort with cross-functional collaboration and ambiguous product problems
- Quick learning ability, initiative-taking, and enthusiasm for technically varied challenges
**Bonus Skills:**
- Experience leading projects and working with remote stakeholders
- Experience creating automated software build systems
