CHAOS Industries is redefining modern defense with a multi-product portfolio powered by Coherent Distributed Networks (CDN™), empowering warfighters, commercial air operators, and border protection teams. Founded in 2022, the company has raised $1 billion in funding from leading investors including 8VC, Accel, and Valor Equity Partners. Headquartered in Los Angeles with offices in Washington D.C., San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, and London, CHAOS is building advanced radar systems and related software platforms. You'll join a small, highly collaborative team working across London and San Francisco, building the software behind some of the world's most advanced radar systems. Working alongside software, hardware, and systems engineers, you'll design backend services, data pipelines, and operator-facing applications that turn raw sensor data into actionable decisions. The systems you build must be reliable, resilient, secure, and performant—enabling operators to depend on them in critical environments. This is a high-ownership role where you'll influence architecture and help define the engineering foundations of a rapidly evolving platform. You'll be responsible for: **Backend Services** – Develop high-performance Python services that ingest, process, and distribute real-time sensor data with low latency, high reliability, and security at scale. **Operator Interfaces** – Build and evolve web applications operators use to monitor live missions and investigate sensor data (TypeScript and React). **Cloud Platform** – Design and build secure, scalable Azure services that power distributed radar systems, defining infrastructure as code and instrumentation. **Platform Architecture** – Help shape the technical direction of the platform, making architectural decisions that support new capabilities, scale, and long-term maintainability. You'll thrive if you enjoy building scalable backend systems, solving complex distributed systems and real-time data challenges, learning new technologies quickly, and caring deeply about reliability, security, and scalability. You should communicate well, collaborate across teams, and be motivated by building technology with meaningful real-world impact. Experience with AI coding tools is valued. **Requirements:** - Right to work in the UK - Willingness to travel (based in London Soho office; expect to co-locate in San Francisco for approximately one week each quarter) - Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to learn quickly - Experience building scalable backend systems and owning production services - Experience with distributed systems and real-time data processing - Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript/React - Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) - Demonstrated commitment to reliability, security, and scalability
