AlphaSense is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own the company's Excel plugin strategy, bringing AI-driven market intelligence directly into the workflows of financial professionals. You will build the bridge between AlphaSense's cutting-edge AI platform and Microsoft Excel, creating experiences that allow financial analysts, investors, and researchers to query 1.6 billion documents and access real-time market intelligence without leaving their spreadsheets.
In this role, you will architect a production-grade Excel plugin that seamlessly integrates AlphaSense's AI capabilities while respecting Excel's performance and stability requirements. You'll navigate Excel's object model, calculation engine, and event system to create features that feel native while accessing cloud-based intelligence. Your work will ensure the plugin functions flawlessly across Excel 2016, 2019, and Office 365, handling corporate proxies, SSO, offline scenarios, and IT restrictions.
You'll optimize ruthlessly to make complex operations feel instantaneous, managing memory carefully and ensuring the plugin never slows down Excel. You'll translate between financial users' needs and technical possibilities, creating intuitive interfaces for sophisticated AI capabilities. Within your first year, you'll ship improvements used daily across AlphaSense's internal research organization, migrating legacy infrastructure onto AlphaSense's own platform and making powerful research workflows as simple as typing a formula.
You'll also establish the technical foundation and best practices that will guide the company's Office integration strategy for years to come, mentoring a team of engineers in the unique challenges of desktop development and raising the bar for quality and performance in an environment where every millisecond matters.
This role sits at the intersection of enterprise desktop development, financial technology, and AI. You'll need to think like a financial analyst, architect like a distributed systems engineer, and optimize like a game developer.
