Factbird is a manufacturing operations platform that helps over 300 companies across 28 countries turn real-time production data into actionable decisions. The company, founded in 2016 with 80+ employees across Copenhagen and the US, is seeking a Senior Security & Compliance Engineer to own and build out its security and compliance program.
This is a hands-on senior role requiring both deep technical expertise and strong cross-functional influence. You will assess Factbird's current security and compliance posture, identify gaps, and recommend pragmatic, risk-based improvements. Key responsibilities include:
**Security Posture & Audits:**
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of current security and compliance posture, identifying gaps and recommending improvements aligned with business impact
- Own technical security audits end-to-end, translating findings into prioritized, realistic improvement plans
- Design and implement security controls and processes across cloud infrastructure, applications, and development practices
- Run security risk assessments and penetration tests on a regular cadence
- Take a pragmatic, risk-based approach appropriate for a company of Factbird's size and stage
**Influence & Partnership:**
- Author proposals and technical specifications for security initiatives and drive them to decision
- Mentor engineers on secure coding practices and security-minded design
- Partner with engineering leadership on architecture decisions with security or compliance implications
- Represent security in cross-functional conversations with Product, Customer Success, and Sales, particularly when addressing customer security concerns
You will work with AWS infrastructure, a Rust-built codebase, and be responsible for operationalizing frameworks like SOC 2 and GDPR compliance. The role requires someone who understands the difference between technical ideals and practical implementation at a growing company, ideally with prior experience building security programs from the ground up in small organizations.
**Requirements:**
- Minimum five years of experience since graduating from a relevant Master's program
- Solid technical security engineering experience with hands-on ability to work directly with AWS environments, Rust codebases, and security processes
- Working familiarity with SOC 2, GDPR, and similar frameworks, with practical experience operationalizing them beyond checklist compliance
- Track record of running or meaningfully contributing to technical audits
- Strong communication and influence skills to drive change across teams without direct authority
- Fluent English
- Legal right to live and work in Denmark (relocation support available for the right candidate)
