Salary: USD 130,000 - 225,000 / annual
Formlabs is seeking a Senior Robotic Systems Integration Engineer to support the full product development cycle of professional 3D printers, from early R&D through continuing engineering for shipped products. You will bring together firmware and hardware subsystems into cohesive, optimized systems, shepherding prototypes through integration and ensuring they meet requirements and deliver physical prototypes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Integrating firmware and hardware subsystems, managing prototypes through integration phases, and ensuring optimal system performance per specifications
- Partnering with system architects to create and document visual system descriptions, including subsystem inputs and outputs
- Establishing interfaces between subsystems, defining and refining control algorithms, and designing electro-mechanical subsystems as needed
- Owning management of subsystem and system-level requirements and tracking changes
- Designing comprehensive test plans to validate subsystem and system requirements, executing tests, and analyzing results
- Resolving system-level issues to improve performance and recommending corrective actions to functional teams
- Collaborating closely with design teams across disciplines to overcome technical challenges and ship quality products
You will work within an interdependent ecosystem of software, mechanical, and electrical components, requiring deep technical knowledge of how products behave in the field and in development.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience designing complex electro-mechanical systems
- Knowledge of motion control, sensors, and control algorithms
- Experience managing system and subsystem requirements
- Strong hardware debugging skills and passion for understanding why systems work or fail
- Scripting experience with Python (preferred), LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar languages
Bonus skills:
- Familiarity with low-level embedded firmware (C++ preferred)
- Experience in data analysis and reporting
- Background with consumer electronics
