Salary: GBP 90,000 - 100,000 / annual
Odeko is an all-in-one operations and technology platform serving over 20,000 independent coffee shops, cafes, and food establishments. The platform enables customers to purchase supplies from hundreds of brands, track ordering trends, finance equipment, access insurance, and manage vendor relationships—helping businesses increase revenue, reduce environmental impact, and save on costs.
You will own product outcomes end-to-end: taking problems from café owners, warehouse leads, or account managers through discovery, scoping, build, launch, and measurement with significant autonomy. You'll work across the full stack—React Native/Web frontends, Ruby/Rails and TypeScript services, AWS infrastructure, and data layers—moving to wherever the problem lives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning complete product outcomes rather than individual tickets, with autonomy over design, product, and architecture decisions within established guidelines
- Working across the full technology stack with comfort across all layers
- Spending real time with stakeholders—operations teams, customers, warehouse staff—to inform scope, sequencing, and trade-off decisions
- Prototyping rapidly and iterating toward the best user experience
- Building with AI agents as your primary development mode: planning work for agents, running parallel workflows, critically reviewing generated code, and maintaining tests and guardrails
- Mentoring other engineers and contributing to AI engineering standards
AI-assisted development is a professional standard at Odeko. You'll be measured on how well you direct, review, and take responsibility for AI-generated output. The role assumes you already work this way; what's being hired for is judgment about what to build and whether it's right.
REQUIREMENTS:
Essential:
- 6–10+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of shipping and operating production applications
- Demonstrated product ownership: ability to point to shipped work where you made scope and design calls, not just implementation; direct experience working with customers or operations staff and iterating based on feedback
- Proven expertise across the core stack (TypeScript/JavaScript, React Native/Web, Ruby/Rails, AWS, CI/CD) and distributed application architecture; comfort across all layers, though depth need not be equal everywhere
- AI-native development as default practice: using agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor agent mode, or similar) to produce majority of code; planning and decomposing work for agent execution; reviewing agent output with rigor equivalent to colleague PRs and owning results (demonstrated live in interview)
- Strong written and verbal communication with product, design, and operations audiences; ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and business trade-offs to engineers
- Experience in a startup or similarly fast-moving, innovative environment with track record of delivering scalable, mission-critical production applications
Desirable:
- Experience building LLM-powered product features: retrieval, tool use, agent workflows, evaluation and observability of model output
- Familiarity with Ruby/Rails, React, Federated GraphQL, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, microservices, and NetSuite
- Experience in logistics, supply chain, marketplace, or operations-heavy products
- Design sensibility and comfort making reasonable UI decisions without waiting for mockups
