Semble is a healthcare software company on a mission to enable health professionals to amplify their impact through powerful, innovative cloud-based clinical systems used by thousands of clinicians.
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you'll be a driving force behind the evolution of Semble's engineering platform and the day-to-day experience of every engineer building on top of it. You'll champion infrastructure best practices, shape team goals, and influence the wider engineering roadmap. This is a high-trust role where you'll make sound architectural judgement calls, mentor other engineers, and represent the Platform team's priorities in cross-functional conversations.
The Platform team exists to make the whole engineering organisation more effective. You'll be responsible for developer productivity and experience (tooling, enablement, onboarding), cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, MongoDB Cloud), infrastructure as code (Terraform), modern CI/CD (GitOps patterns, ArgoCD), and agentic platform enablement.
Key success metrics over one year include: reducing barriers for engineers to build and ship code in production; building self-service tooling and golden paths so teams can spin up services independently; improving new engineer onboarding; running developer experience initiatives (workshops, office hours); writing discoverable documentation; gathering and acting on developer feedback; partnering with teams to understand workflows; contributing innovative ideas to the roadmap; establishing objective success criteria; providing highly available and performant infrastructure; hardening production systems; modernising CI/CD pipelines; evolving Infrastructure as Code; establishing SLAs/SLOs; improving compliance and security posture; and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
You'll work closely with security and implementation teams to ensure infrastructure decisions serve the wider organisation's goals. The role emphasises obsessing over friction—the small and large things that slow engineers down—and removing them through better tooling, clearer paths, and stronger enablement.
REQUIREMENTS:
Developer Productivity & Enablement:
- 3-5 years of software engineering background, ideally with meaningful time as a product/application engineer before moving into platform work
- Experience building or contributing to internal developer platforms, portals, or self-service tooling (e.g. Backstage, custom CLIs, service catalogues)
- Track record of designing paved roads or golden paths
- Experience improving CI/CD pipelines for reliability, speed, and developer feedback loops
- Comfort running enablement activities: writing documentation, training sessions, pairing, internal advocacy
- Experience using developer experience metrics or frameworks (DORA metrics, SPACE framework, DevEx surveys)
- Genuine interest in developer experience and removing friction for other engineers
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog
General:
- Proficiency in at least one of: Go, Python, Typescript, or strong shell scripting skills
- Strong communication skills and comfort influencing technical direction across teams
- Desire to keep learning
Infrastructure & Cloud:
- Deep understanding of core AWS services: IAM, S3, EC2, EKS, RDS, Lambda
- Experience running, maintaining, and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters (EKS) in production, multi-tenant environments
- Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform, and configuration/deployment tooling such as Helm
- Hands-on experience with modern GitOps CI/CD tooling (Argo CD, Flux, or similar)
- Experience with MongoDB or similar managed database platforms
- Experience monitoring and operating production systems (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Experience operating within standards-compliant environments (e.g. ISO 27001)
