Semble is a cloud-based clinical software platform used by thousands of clinicians to improve healthcare delivery. The company is on a mission to enable health professionals to amplify their impact through powerful, innovative, and secure software.
The Platform team exists to make the entire engineering organization more effective. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will be a driving force behind the evolution of Semble's engineering platform and the day-to-day experience of every engineer building on top of it. You will champion infrastructure best practices, shape team goals, and influence the wider engineering roadmap. This is a high-trust role where you'll make sound architectural judgments, mentor other engineers, and represent the Platform team's priorities in cross-functional conversations.
Key responsibilities include:
**Developer Productivity & Enablement:**
- Reduce barriers for engineers to build, ship, and operate code in production, measured through faster lead time for changes and fewer hand-offs
- Build or improve self-service tooling and "golden paths" (project templates, standard CI/CD pipelines, scaffolding tools) so teams can spin up new services independently
- Improve onboarding for new engineers, shrinking time to first meaningful production contribution
- Run developer experience initiatives such as office hours, internal workshops, or training sessions to build AWS/Kubernetes/CI-CD literacy
- Write and maintain clear, discoverable documentation and runbooks, treating docs as a product
- Gather and act on developer experience signals (surveys, feedback loops, usage metrics) to prioritize roadmap based on real pain points
- Partner with engineering teams to understand workflows firsthand through shadowing, pairing, and dogfooding
- Contribute innovative ideas to the Platform roadmap, balancing infrastructure evolution with tooling and enablement work
- Establish objective measures of success and document assumptions clearly
- Contribute to observability-as-code initiatives
**Infrastructure & Reliability:**
- Provide highly available and performant AWS, Kubernetes (EKS), and MongoDB Cloud infrastructure
- Harden production systems, improving uptime, graceful degradation, and automated recovery
- Modernize CI/CD pipelines leveraging GitOps practices (e.g., ArgoCD)
- Evolve Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code for consistency, reusability, and safety
- Establish or improve SLAs/SLOs for core platform infrastructure
- Work with Security to raise compliance and security posture without unnecessary burden
- Identify and deliver infrastructure cost-saving opportunities
The Platform team is responsible for developer productivity and experience, developer enablement and engagement, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes, MongoDB Cloud), agentic platform enablement, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and modern CI/CD using GitOps patterns and ArgoCD.
**Requirements:**
**Developer Productivity & Enablement Background:**
- 3-5 years of solid software engineering background, ideally with meaningful time as a product/application engineer before moving into platform work
- Experience building or contributing to internal developer platforms, portals, or self-service tooling (e.g., Backstage, custom CLIs, service catalogues)
- Track record of designing "paved roads" or golden paths that make the right way the easy way
- Experience improving CI/CD pipelines for reliability, speed, and developer feedback loops
- Comfort running enablement activities: writing documentation, running training sessions, pairing with teams, advocating for good engineering practices
- Experience using developer experience metrics or frameworks (DORA metrics, SPACE framework, internal DevEx surveys)
- Genuine interest in developer experience and removing friction for other engineers
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog
**General:**
- Proficiency in at least one of: Go, Python, Typescript, or strong shell scripting skills
- Strong communication skills and comfort influencing technical direction across teams
- Desire to keep learning
**Infrastructure & Cloud:**
- Deep understanding of core AWS services including IAM, S3, EC2, EKS, RDS, Lambda
- Experience running, maintaining, and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters (EKS) in production, multi-tenant environments
- Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform, and configuration/deployment tooling such as Helm
- Hands-on experience with modern GitOps CI/CD tooling (Argo CD, Flux, or similar)
- Experience with MongoDB or similar managed database platforms
- Experience monitoring and operating production systems (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Experience operating within standards-compliant environments (e.g., ISO 27001)
