Beacon Biosignals is transforming precision medicine for the brain through at-home EEG platforms and diagnostics. The company serves life sciences partners in clinical development and operates a diagnostics business combining EEG and cardiopulmonary signals for sleep and CNS disorder assessments.
As a Senior Mobile Engineer focused on device connectivity, you will lead development of native iOS and Android BLE layers that connect EEG headbands and wearables to patient and clinician applications. Your work directly impacts data reliability and quality in home, clinical, and trial settings.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading development of native iOS and Android BLE device SDKs
- Owning connection reliability, data throughput, and battery performance across diverse phones, OS versions, and real-world environments
- Partnering with the Devices team on firmware interfaces, GATT profiles, and device behavior
- Exposing device capabilities to React Native applications through clean, well-tested native modules
- Building observability for device connectivity using telemetry and field feedback to identify and fix failure modes
- Shaping the roadmap and technical direction of the mobile platform
In your first 3–6 months, you may improve BLE pairing and reconnection reliability, increase streaming robustness for EEG data including recovery from dropped connections, build device-side support for signal quality validation features, and add diagnostics to help Clinical Operations troubleshoot field issues.
Beacon maintains robust asynchronous work practices with office hubs in Boston and New York, considering candidates across the US Eastern time zone.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of mobile development experience with extensive native iOS (Swift) and/or Android (Kotlin) work
- Hands-on production experience integrating BLE peripheral devices, including pairing/bonding, reconnection, background operation, and data throughput (Core Bluetooth, Android BLE APIs)
- Experience with sensor integration or streaming health data from wearables
- Rigorous approach to reliability with attention to edge cases, device fragmentation, and performance
- Strong communication skills and comfort in collaborative, asynchronous environments
Bonus: React Native production experience or native module writing, TypeScript and broader stack familiarity (React Native, Expo, GitHub), medical device/EEG/wearables background, clinical trial or regulated environment experience, open source mobile or BLE contributions.
