Salary: USD 117,000 - 225,000 / annual

Formlabs is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to architect and design the hardware systems of next-generation 3D printers. The company's 3D printing technology powers innovation at over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA. In this role, you will push the capabilities of 3D printing by creating innovative solutions to challenging problems. You will serve as a technical leader within a group of mechanical, systems, and electrical engineers, designing, reviewing, and guiding junior colleagues' work. Your responsibilities include prototyping new systems and mechanisms, testing materials, researching 3D printing challenges, and architecting the numerous subsystems of 3D printers for performance, manufacturability, and reliability. You will be responsible for key system decisions that affect the final performance and reliability of the products. You will work hands-on across disciplines to prototype designs, solve problems, and communicate effectively with vendors and suppliers globally. The role emphasizes creating elegant systems that function with efficiency and simplicity, with attention to both the gritty details of part design and the broader product vision. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering - Strong portfolio of previous work with background in electro-mechanical systems - Familiarity with thermal systems, optical systems, sensor design, controllers, structures, and algorithms - Experience with the full product development cycle - Knowledge of manufacturing methods for high-volume and high-performance products - Material selection expertise and understanding of manufacturing techniques - Ability to work hands-on and across disciplines - Effective communication skills with global vendors and suppliers BONUS SKILLS: - Familiarity with polymers and polymer chemistry - Electronics and circuit design - PLM/document control systems - Programming skills (Python) - Industrial design
