Salary: USD 117,000 - 225,000 / annual

Formlabs is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to architect and design the hardware systems of next-generation 3D printers. The company's 3D printing technology powers innovation at over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA. In this role, you will push the capabilities of 3D printing by creating innovative solutions to challenging problems. You will serve as a technical leader within a group of mechanical, systems, and electrical engineers, designing, reviewing, and guiding junior colleagues' work. You will prototype new systems and mechanisms, test materials, and research 3D printing challenges. Your responsibilities include architecting the numerous subsystems of a 3D printer for performance, manufacturability, and reliability, and engineering some of the most advanced 3D printers on the market. You will be responsible for key system decisions that affect the final performance and reliability of the products. The role involves hands-on work across disciplines to prototype designs and solve problems, with exposure to the full product development cycle from conception through manufacturing. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering - Strong portfolio of previous work with background in electro-mechanical systems (portfolio submission required with application) - Familiarity with thermal systems, optical systems, sensor design, controllers, structures, and algorithms - Experience with part design, material selection, and manufacturing techniques - Knowledge of a variety of manufacturing methods for high-volume and high-performance products - Hands-on prototyping and problem-solving capabilities - Experience with the full product development cycle - Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and suppliers globally BONUS SKILLS: - Familiarity with polymers and polymer chemistry - Electronics and circuit design - PLM/document control systems - Programming skills (Python) - Industrial design
