Salary: USD 115,000 - 215,000 / annual
Formlabs is seeking a Senior Materials Scientist to lead materials development for its 3D printing platform. The company's technology powers innovation at over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA.
In this role, you will conduct research and develop world-class materials for 3D printing, from initial lab explorations through validation and commercialization. You'll collaborate closely with hardware and software engineers to ensure new and existing materials print seamlessly and reliably on Formlabs hardware. Your work will involve designing and performing rigorous experiments, using data-driven insights to inform materials performance improvements, and partnering with product management and cross-functional teams to continuously advance the materials portfolio.

You will be a creative and resourceful problem-solver who balances speed with scientific rigor in a dynamic environment. You should have a solid understanding of materials science fundamentals and polymer development, with a passion for testing and troubleshooting. You'll be comfortable working autonomously, taking initiative to learn new skills, and collaborating with a diverse group of scientists and engineers. Strong data literacy and experimental design skills are essential, as is a commitment to thorough documentation.

**Requirements:**
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in a relevant science or engineering field
- Solid understanding of materials science and polymer development fundamentals
- Experience designing and conducting rigorous experiments
- Ability to work autonomously and take initiative
- Strong documentation practices
**Bonus Skills:**
- Experience developing materials for 3D printing, especially SLA/DLP or SLS printers
- 3D CAD modeling
- Programming skills (Python, Matlab, SQL, etc.)
